WITCHES ON FIRE

a while ago I was lucky enough to snatch the 3rd part of the WITCHES SABBATH series, on which PULLING TEETH do a cover of POISON IDEA's ALAN'S ON FIRE for just 6 U$D. when I found the 7" in my post box a few days later without the usual customs bullshit I suddenly had the strange thought that this was almost too much luck for one 7" which was absolutely the case as I figured out only minutes later cause the 7" arrived quite wraped and also has what's called a reversed groove (needle runs from the inside to the outside) and so can hardly be played. the 2 things together make the needle jump off of the 7" into the off. when I told the guy from which I bought the 7" about it's shape and attached a picture to proof my claim he was really cool and refunded me at once. lucky me, again, right?! so I tested my luck and thanks to my turntable and a little effort from me I really was not only able to play it at least once but could also record it. you'll get a rip of that recording when you click on the cover even though that's not the best sounding rip I ever made.

as already announced a while ago here's DISCONNECTED's split tape / CD-R with UNDER ANCHOR. as you can see on the pics below the tapes are pro-dubbed and imprinted and come with a printed j-card. can't tell you if the poster-sized lyric sheet that came with my CD-R comes with the tape too though. let's start with UNDER ANCHOR. their side of the tape has 6 tracks of fast HARDCORE / PUNK with nice hoarse vocals. not bad but nothing that gets me really excited in spite of the facts that they got some really nice parts. let's continue with DISCONNECTED. depending on if we are talking about the tape version or the CD-R version you get 5 (tape) or 6 (CD-R) tracks of pissed off HARDCORE / PUNK with a metal edge and undeniable JAPCORE influences including a G.A.T.E.S. cover in either cases. click the cover above to download!

I've to confess that I can't remember who sent me this link. these are the first recordings of Canada's LEGION who later changed their name to LEGION DCLXVI or LEGION 666. as I don't know when they recorded the 9 tracks, incl. one instrumental, all I can tell you is that 4 tracks appeared on their HELL AT LAST 7" and 2 tracks appeared on their KISS THE GOAT CD and 3 of those 6 tracks also appeared on their DIE SCHEISSE CHRISTUS CD. click the picture above to download.

as you can see I was not only finally able to snatch a copy of HARMS WAY's IMPRISONED 7" I could even snatch one of the 167 copies on clear vinyl. well, while there's no doubt that this 7" is absolutely top notch music-wise as HARMS WAY's music is in general there's also no doubt that this 7" totally blows lyric-wise! as a matter of fact lyrics that deal with anything releated to S.E. are nearly always totally ridiculous but the lyrics on this 7" are beyond ridiculous. in case you don't believe me here's an example: one day a week / we get revenge / drunk mother fuckers / your time has come to an end / with weapons in hand / you'll feel our destruction / we will end your / alcoholic consumption now, tell me: isn't that absolutely fucking brilliant? isn't that true poetry? let me add that in spite of those lyrics their singer seemed to be a really friendly and inteligent guy when I talked to him face to face on the HARMS WAY European tour with NAILS and RISE ABOVE in 2010 plus he's not even looking half as impressive in person as the pics of him on the web and on their records lead you to believe!

well, what could I probably say / write about POISON IDEA that hasn't been said / written before? not much? yup, that's right! cause of that I'll keep this post short. BLANK BLACKOUT VACANT is POISON IDEA's 4th full length which was released about 20 years ago in 1992 and has gems like PUNISH ME on it. click the cover to download!

the 1st press of this 12" came with this 2 track live 7" that has FEEL THE DARKNESS on side A and ALAN'S ON FIRE on side B. both tracks have been recorded live on KBOO on 09/10/1991. in case you ask yourself what the song ALAN'S ON FIRE is about, here's the explanation: this song called "Alan's On Fire", about this guy who my friend knew. He worked all his life for this company, he had a family, three kids who grew up and went to college. And he was treated like shit all the time, he was like a nonassuming person who was just used all his life. So one morning he invited his family over and they all had dinner, with their kids and everything. And there's Grandpa Alan, he's been pissed off all his life. And he makes them sit down at the table and have coffee with him, and Alan went in the backyard, sat down and poured a jug of gasoline over his head and ignited himself in front of his family! "So for once in my life I will be heard, you won't ignore me now, you've fucked me all my life, this time you're gonna pay attention." It's very powerful, so we wrote a song about it.

let's face it: nowadays the term METALLIC HARDCORE is an insult! and rightfully so even though way back in the 90ies that wasn't the case but was the label slapped on bands like Arizona's UNRUH and others that sounded way more, you guessed it METAL than nearly any HARDCORE band before. their guitarist Ryan said in an interview "We just knew we wanted to be pretty much speed metal mixed with hardcore at the time." when asked about the early days of UNRUH. anyway, this is their first 4 track 7" from 1997 called FRIENDLY FIRE and UNRUH never sounded rawer or fiercer than at this point of their career. click the cover to download.

in 1980 Gary Floyd, who later formed SISTER DOUBLE HAPPINESS, and 3 other guys started the 1st version of a band called THE DICKS in Austin / Texas and also released their THE DICKS HATE THE POLICE 7" in the same year. 30 years later a.k.a. today this 7" is what's called a classic. and rightfully so! the title-track, which has lyrics written from the point of view of a cop that abuses his power has some of the darkest vibes ever! period. click the cover to download.

SHORTLIVED are another New Zealand band worth checking out. Their MINDROT 7” has 8 great tracks of raw, fast & pissed off Hardcore that is influenced by bands like DROPDEAD as well as old U.S. Punk/HC bands. 7 own tracks and a cover of ANGRY SAMOANS’ “Lights Out” as icing on the gravy!

KALI - DEMO 7"

KALI hail from Canada and this 7" contains the 8 tracks of their demo. Fierce POWER VIOLENCE with a strong anti-Christian stance! Considering the fact that the youngest member of KALI is only 16 this is more than awesome! A review said: “Short and chaotic tunes like HELLNATION, DROP DEAD, CROSSED OUT running amok on a nice and warm summer day after taking an overdose of LSD.” That is a poetic but accurate description!

Toledo / Ohio spwaned this beast called DISCONNECTED which consists of (ex)memebers of bands like AS GOOD AS DEAD, PREMONITIONS OF WAR amongst others. this is the self-released 4 track CD-R they did for their tour with CLOUD RAT in a ltd. quantity of only 50 copies. while 2 of the 4 tracks, including a G.A.T.E.S. cover also appear on their split tape / CD-R with UNDER ANCHOR the 2 other tracks are unreleased. the G.A.T.E.S. cover gives you a great hint what to expect from DISCONNECTED music-wise: angry and fierce HARDCORE with a heavy JAPCORE influence.

the TOWN OF HARDCORE comp. 7" was on my wantlist for ages before I was finally able to track down a copy. it features exclusive tracks by FUCKED UP, HAYMAKER, KNIFE FIGHT, MENTAL, PUNCH IN THE FACE, RNR, SO BE IT, THINK I CARE and VIOLENT MINDS but I mainly wanted it for the HAYMAKER and KNIFE FIGHT tracks cause they totally slay and make worth owning this comp. alone. plus besides a lyric sheet it also includes a sticker and a poster which makes the packaging above average too.

I hate to say this but EXTORTION's last 5" called GET FUCKED is as close to a total let down as by any means possible! just 2 songs of which one is a boring sludgey 2 min something instrumental (in case you don't know yet let me tell you that instrumental is just another word for boring in most cases anyway) and the other is mediocre at best in spite of the fact that it has some nice drumming that brings old D.R.I. to mind. while I don't know why the 5" is hand-numbered and ltd. to 300 copies although there were 500 copies of the 5" pressed. as my source is Sandro from R.S.R. himself I got this straight from the horses mouth so too say but all I remember is that he said he did 500 cause the price for 300 copies is nearly the same as the price for 500 copies though. well, the same is also true for covers so that's not really an explanation either. thinking about it... perhaps he just released the 5" as a favor for someone even though he thought he wouldn't be able to sell more than 300 copies of it? hmmm... click the cover if you don't believe me!

there's this guy from New Zealand called Sam who seems to play the guitar or sings in at least half the HC/PUNK bands that are located there. he was/is in SHORTLIVED, SCAB, ROGERNOMIX, METH DRINKER, POLICE LINEUP and most likely some others but as that's not enough to keep him busy he also runs a record-label that's called ALWAYS NEVER FUN on which he has released SHORTLIVED's debut 12" amongst other stuff. he's also released the 6 track debut 7" of his new band ROGERNOMIX in a ltd. edition of just 150 copies which sold out quick. while Sam only handled the vocals in SHORTLIVED he sings and plays guitar in ROGERNOMIX at the same time. ROGERNOMIX is a 4 piece that features Sarsha, SHORTLIVED's bassist on, you guessed it, bass, a drummer and another woman as 2nd vocalist. the dual male/female vox make ROGERNOMIX sound quite "crusty" but that suits them really well! check out ROGERNOMIX if you like your HARDCORE fast & pissed off!

...that even though girlfriend calls me "THE RUINATOR" I don't fuck up stuff on a regular basis! nevertheless I recently somehow managed to fuck up my 2 of my laptops within 8 days. till I get one of them fixed I'm left with just my very 1st laptop which is slow as fuck and can't even handle my scanner! without my scanner it's not possible to post stuff the way I usually do which means it will take a little while till I'm back on track. that's a real pity as whole lot of awesome records and tapes, that I'd love to post about, have been released or made it to my place in the last few weeks as you can see on the pic above. not that I would have the time to really do that but releases like GEHENNA's new 7" LAND OF SODOM II, the long awaited re-issue of GRAVEHILL's PRACTITIONERS OF FELL SORCERY demo on vinyl, the 2nd edition of DEVIL's LIVE ENTRY tape or the new 7"es from HOAX, PENETRATION PANTHERS and DAMAGES to name just a few would all deserve a post of their own though. as that's not possible by any means right now let me just tell you that what surprised me the most of all the new stuff I received in the last weeks was the new DISCONNECTED stuff Will has sent me. their split tape with UNDER ANCHOR as well as the 4 track CD-R they did for their tour with CLOUD RAT are both top notch and really worth checking out!

I got GOD HARVEST's 2009 demo tape from their guitar player Austin to review it here a while ago but work & life didn't leave me enough time to do that till now. anyway, I'm really glad Austin has sent me their tape cause since the tape surfaced here it's on heavy rotation. the pro-dubbed and imprinted 6 track tape also comes with a printed j-card and a lyric sheet. music-wise GOD HARVEST play really ripping GRINDCORE that brought PULLING TEETH to my mind when I gave their demo a 1st listen for whatever reason even though they don't really sound like them. the 3 songs on side A are all around 1:30 min long while the 3 tracks on side B are all longer than 2 min which is the only thing I find a little bit strange as cause of that running order side A is only about 4:30 min long while side B is about 7 min long and you therefore have to rewind if you want to play the tape once again which could have been avoided. not really a biggie but still a little bit annoying once in a while. as GOD HARVEST have a blog where you can download the digital version of the tape I'd strongly recommend that you click on the cover above and visit their blog to at least check out the digital version of the demo!

HC LIVES... BUT WHERE?

if you'd be out on a quest to find that out Sapporo wouldn't be the dumbest place to start your search thanks to SLANG. I've to admit that their HARDCORE LIVES 4 track 7" isn't exactly the best record they released so far but it's still already a raging record. the 4 tracks also include a nice cover of RIPCORD's SINGLE TICKET TO HELL. I really like SLANG but what I find a little bit annoying about them is that you'll find (a) song(s) that already appeared on (an)other release(s) before on nearly everything they put out.

I already posted about DEVIL when the original version of LIVE ENTRY came out here. as the original version was a hand-numbered lathe cut 7" limited to only 42 copies which sold out in a day VEDAVU REC. did a 2nd edition of LIVE ENTRY in form of 100 pro-dubbed and imprinted tapes with not only just the 2 tracks from the 7" but also one previously unreleased extra track called THE INFINITY OF SATAN. the tape comes in a plastic snap-box with a 5-panel full color j-card and an obi-strip which means the packaging is top-notch just as expected by those that are familiar with VEDAVU REC. and their other releases so far! if you're not among the few people that own physical copies of previous VEDAVU REC. releases like the SUMERIAN AXE lathe cut 7" called BY THIS AXE I RULE which comes with a packaging that is beyond unreal or the TAFKATA WORKER & PARASITE lathe cut 2 x 10" you should take a look at my posts about them to see what you missed.

I just got KUNGFU RICK's STATUES TO STONES, SOLDIERS TO BONES 8 track 7" which was released by GLOOM REC. in 2001 and rips as expected! they've put a lot of hard work in these 8 tracks just as their name, which means something like "hard working Rick" (Kung Fu = hard work), suggests. my copy of the little rager came on white vinyl but unfortunately without any inserts therefore I'd highly appreciate if anybody could e-mail me scans of the inserts! click the cover to download.

I finally scored a copy of the SHANK / UNHOLY GRAVE split 7" which was the last missing piece of vinyl in my SHANK (vinyl) collection (now sell/trade me that tape from their Aussie tour!). let's start with Nippon's UNHOLY GRAVE: as they put 2 THE STUPIDS covers on their side they don't blow as much as they usually do but the still blow nevertheless. a band that no one needs! period! fortunately SHANK make up for that let down with their 5 tracks as expected. fast, vicious & angry songs with intelligent lyrics and nice explanations. click on either cover to download!

as I got the EYE-GOUGE 7" flexi as a present from John who runs COFFIN CUT REC. I thought I should at least write a few words about it. well, let's face the facts: the cover artwork isn't exactly the most brilliant artwork the world has ever seen! besides that it screams "Skinhead", which aren't destined to become my best friends in most cases, I just don't like the primitive drawing style in which it's done but that's just me. honestly speaking what really interested me on this flexi was the sound quality especially since John said it would be of "high quality" which I doubted but I've to give him that the sound quality is really decent and way above the quality I expected plus music-wise EYE-GOUGE aren't bad either! the flexi, that's ltd. to 300 copies, offers 5 tracks of fast and pissed off HARDCORE (they also have a one-sided 7" that's called FAST, PISSED OFF & PROUD under their belt b.t.w.) of which the longest runs 51 seconds. while EYE-GOUGE rip music-wise their lyrics are again nothing to write home about! maybe it's a "Skinhead" thing I just can't understand but "we're in this together" or "I hit you you hit the floor" bore the hell out of me! the square flexi comes with a digital download code too.

getting a good scan of the flexi wasn't that easy as it's on clear vinyl!

I finally scored a copy of the 1st NATION OF FINKS 7" called FOURTEEN PUBLIC DISPLAYS OF AFFECTION which touches the matter of religion in some of the 14 songs and therefore is the perfect follow up to the christian moron post. I admit that this 7" isn't as good as their 2nd 7" which I've already posted but it's far from being weak though. some of the songs blend ito one another and I left it that way which is the reason that the 1st 2 tracks actually are the 1st 4 tracks on the 7". there are also only 13 tracks listed on the back even though there are 14 songs on it. as the back-cover reads that there 's a top secret bonus track guess how I tagged the untitled track? if you haven't downloaded their 2nd 7" RETURN OF THE PISSED OFF BASTARDS yet I'd strongly advise you to download both NATION OF FINKS' 7"es now and play them both loud!

I never ever even just thought of buying music in form of digital files to download and also would have never thought I'd ever be just tempted to do that. well, that was before CITIZENS ARREST decided after 20 years to hit the studio again, record some new tunes and release it as a digital 4 song E.P. called SOAKED IN OTHERS BLOOD on COEXTINCTION as I bought that E.P. as fast as possible cause they and GEHENNA are my 2 all-time fave bands and therefore I just had to hear their new stuff! in the meantime I listened to their 4 new tracks quite a few times and dare say: CITIZENS ARREST are back on the map! unlike a lot of other bands that reformed ages after they had disbanded CITIZENS ARREST aren't embarrassing themselves with their new recordings but deliver 4 kick ass tracks. unfortunately digital E.P. means no physical copies only m4a files to download and that totally sucks! period! as if that wouldn't be enough the packaging sucks even worse! original CITIZENS ARREST vocalist Ted Leo, who nowadays handles the part of the 2nd guitarist, posted this on their FACEBOOK site: "...Vinyl would be great, and I'm sure there'll be something in the near future, but there's a reason we didn't do it right now - we thought the whole point of what our friends at Coexctinction do is cool: no contracts, no LPs, you record fast and for free, they turn it around and get it right up online as fast as they can, and then sell it for cheap. It's a way to document something immediate - friends working with friends, for, like, literally one afternoon of fun and creativity (I realize that sounds a lot like daycare, but...) and have it out there right in the moment. Also, it's part of an ongoing series of these quick digital EPs..." although I think he wrote that to explain why they only did a digital E.P. it also points out nearly everything that, in my opinion, sucks about it. I'm sorry but when "get it right up online as fast as they can" translates to get it up so fast that you can only include 2 text files, one about copyright and the other with some info about encoding plus a 2 sided folder with (nearly) 5"es x 10"es I wouldn't exactly say that that "is cool". I also disagree on the point that COEXTINCTION "then sell it for cheap" cause in my eyes it looks more like they don't "sell it for cheap" they sell it just cheap, as cheap as by all means possible cheapening everything through that which might be the reason that the little artwork included annoys me as much as the absence of more artwork. I'm well aware that this E.P. is part "of an ongoing series of these quick digital EPs" but that's no excuse for the E.P.'s front cover where the label's name is not only displayed bigger than the E.P.'s title. the 7 that indicates the part in the series is also displayed bigger than CITIZENS ARREST's band-name combined with the fact that the black & white CITIZENS ARREST logo on the cover doesn't fit together with the red & gray illustrations on it doesn't make the cover something to write home about. anyway, let's talk about the good things as already said earlier CITIZENS ARREST don't embarrass themselves music-wise with their new recordings! the most recognizable thing is that Darryl's voice, which was something like their trademark, has changed over the years to a point that on some parts I most likely wouldn't recognize it's him if I wouldn't know it. don't get me wrong that's not a critique that's just a fact. besides that all tracks could have also appeared on their old records especially the title track SOAKED IN OTHERS BLOOD. I really hope that the vinyl version of this will have a packaging that does the excellent music more justice than the digital version!

I thought that it's about time for another post about the "Kings of Punk" a.k.a. POISON IDEA therefore here's their OFFICAL BOOTLEG double 7" (you just have to love records with typos in the title). well, the two 7"es are housed in a gatefold cover but come without any inserts and only deliver 1 song per 7" side and all of them, except PLASTIC BOMB, are only covers that also appear on other releases as well. as most of the cover songs POISON IDEA recorded during their career aren't exactly among the best shit they did honestly speaking most likely nobody really needs this one but it also doesn't hurt to have it. click the cover to download!

since you still can hardly watch TV without hearing the words "Japan, nuclear, etc" here's some more classic JAPCORE. a bootleg 12" that's called JAPAN ONE and compiles three 7"es from CONFUSE, LSD, GIL and KURO's WHO THE HELPLESS 8". as this is a really well done bootleg it comes with inserts that include pics of the org. labels and more. as I ripped the mp3s from a CD-R I already made a while ago the tracklist of the mp3s differs from that of the vinyl. on the vinyl side 2 starts with the 3 tracks of LSD's JAST LAST 7" which are followed by CONFUSE's SPENDING LOUD NIGHT 7" here it's the other way round: CONFUSE 1st, LSD second! as it's all classic stuff I wrote enough I think! one last thing: this 12" was bootlegged by ABSOLUTE POWER which at least did a G.I.S.M. bootleg also. does anybody know if they did more? click the cover to download!

as the split 7" that SEA OF SHIT share with SOCIALLY RETARDED has been posted on more than one blog when it was released, you probably may have already downloaded said 7" from another blog. in case you ask yourself now why I decided to post it here ages after it has been posted on all those other blogs? let me tell you that every mp3 rip I found till now came from the same source: the bands! they sent mp3s to some blogs and asked if they would be posted to spread the word about the split. well, even though those mp3s came from the bands themselves they were only ripped with 128 k/bits if I'm not mistaken and didn't contain more artwork then the cover if they contained any artwork at all. not to forget the simple truth that this split 7" is a total monster! vicious, spiteful and brutal HARDCORE that's heavily influenced by what's called POWER ELECTRONICS or (HARSH)NOISE or whatever (I call it annoying e.g.) these days and SOCIALLY RETARDED are even going as far as throwing in a NOISE track on their side for good measure. as POWER ELECTRONICS,(HARSH)NOISE, etc.isn't my cup of coffee I could do without it even though I like it's influence. I admit it's not so annoying in this case as they keep it raher short! although I really dig SOCIALLY RETARDED's 4 other tracks in my ears the real gold on this disk, which is ltd. to 300 copies, are the 3 SEA OF SHIT tracks cause of their ugliness and their brutality but most of all cause they sound like played by people that really feel nothing but disgust when they take a look around. the artwork of the (screen-printed) cover as well as the inlay strengthen that impression and after a look on the lyrics (of both bands) an impression becomes a fact. seems like Chicago, the city that spawned both bands, really "makes you want to kill people" as SICK/TIRED said in an interview. well, either that or there's just something in the water. click the cover above to download.

I & II. of which the 1st appears on their split 7" in a re-recorded version too while the 2nd part is a 7:27 min. I hereby admit that I made this rip from a CD-R that I got from a friend even though I've not only 1 but 2 physical copies of this 7" cause THOUSANDSWILLDIE's A CARCASS IS ONLY DEAD ONCE 7" contains 25 tracks of fierce GRINDCORE some only as short as 6 seconds which means that ripping it from the vinyl would have been a pain in the ass. as I don't know anything about them I've to keep it short. the cover you can see above is the cover of the ltd. I got another quick post for you: THE WORLD ITSELF IS A BAD DREAM which is a totally rad tape compilation with 8 tracks from BAD YEAR, DEAD STARE, DURESS, NAZI DUST, PANZRAM and RATIONAL ANIMALS which run 8 minutes altogether and way more more important are all enjoyable. John Fahy, who not only runs HUMAN CRUSH RECORDINGS but is also a columnist for MRR and plays in PANZRAM and MERKIT if I'm not mistaken was not only kind enough to look around to get a copy for me after it was officially sold out I also got the comp. tape and the PANZRAM demo for only $ 8 incl. shipping from him even though the THE WORLD ITSELF IS A BAD DREAM tape alone would've scored way more on ebay back then. as most releases of NAZI DUST, DEAD STARE and DURESS can be found on ~~a lot of blogs~~ no, wait on nearly every blog is closer to home. every blog that is related to HARDCORE and/or PUNK somehow that is (in case of DEAD STARE incl. this one here too) and as I, as already mentioned before, have uploaded PANZRAM's 31614 demo I guess I don't have to tell you more. considering the fact that the compilation also has already been posted on other blogs before too I probably should have written" I know" instead of I guess.

in my 1st post about MK-ULTRA's discography 2 x 12" I wrote that "the long awaited MK-ULTRA discography 2 x 12" on YOUTH ATTACK has finally seen the light of day! having been announced for ages I started to doubt that it really would be released but fortunately I was wrong and so you've a chance to get your fix of MK-ULTRA without paying a small fortune on ebay for the org. wax. in my opinion they never got the attention they'd have deserved while they were alive and kicking. most people only referred to MK-ULTRA as "the other band of CHARLES BRONSON's drummer Ebro" (who actually not even was the original drummer) which was/is far from doing them justice and in case you don't believe I suggest you buy their discography, which delivers 55 tracks of brilliant, fierce and angry FASTCORE / POWER VIOLENCE / whatever and hear for yourself." but I didn't upload the mp3s back then since it had just been released. after the 1st pressing on white vinyl there were 2 more pressings on clear vinyl. as all 3 pressings are sold out since a while I thought the time would be right to write a 2nd post about it including the mp3s. I also scanned the booklet that came with it which contains the lyrics, band-pics, some artwork and a lot of old fliers. my copy was a present from MK-ULTRA's bassist Kirk (thanks again!) and included a poster of the re-union show they did in 2009 too. unfortunately the booklet comes in a strange size (from an European point of view) so I had to trick my scanner into scanning the complete pages and therefore the quality isn't really brilliant. the booklet also blew up the size of the archive a little bit too much for my taste so I split up the thing in 2 parts. as the MK-ULTRA discography came with a download code for a digital version of the 2 x 12" plus an extra live-cut from 1995 as bonus I just used those mp3s.

I got another 5" for you called TASTIN' SPOON from a band called SPAZZ. actually it's not a regular 5", it's a 5" picture disc and let me add that this is the ugliest picture disc I've seen so far... it has 10 tracks of which some are SPAZZ originals and others are covers of NAPALM DEATH, SORE THROAT, ELECTRO HIPPIES and probably also an S.O.D. cover. you now most likely ask yourself: why probably? well, let me tell you that the track which is listed as "Untitled" on the back cover is either a cover from the band CRAB SOCIETY NORTH or the cover of a track from S.O.D.'s demo with the same name. click the last picture to download!

another thing I found on the web would be the SEX PRISONER 8 track demo from 2010. as re-recorded and in one case also re-named versions of all 8 tracks appear on their totally rad debut 7", which was released by TO LIVE A LIE REC. (you should buy it right now if you don't own it already! it slays!) you might know the songs already but the demo versions are a lot rawer though. SEX PRISONER are from Tuscon / Arizona if I'm not mistaken and sound truly hostile. most people file them under POWER VIOLENCE which isn't wrong but doesn't do this awesome band really justice. I think that the angry bastard son of GEHENNA and CROSSED OUT most likely would sound very much like SEX PRISONER. download link below!

I'm on a little S.E.H.C. trip since a few days and noticed that I haven't posted anything from CHAIN OF STRENGTH yet. something that needs immediate correction as CHAIN OF STRENGTH are among the cream of the crop in case of all things S.E.H.C. as far as I'm concerned. I dare say that CHAIN OF STRENGTH 7" have been one of the most powerful S.E.H.C. bands of all time. both of their 7"es totally rip but I went for the 2nd one called WHAT HOLDS US APART as I think it's the better one. 4 tracks - no fillers! by the way there's a discography 12" out there that compiles both 7"es and 1 track that was either previously unreleased or on a compilation and that 12" has a really horrible sound compared to the originals as far as I remember! click the cover to download.

I could finally snatch a cheap copy of the FOREVER compilation 7" on IRATE RECORDS and therefore decided to post it even though it has been posted on 1000 other blogs before. as a matter of fact this compilation is one of the exceptions to the rule that HARDCORE compilation 7"es have to suck but I only bought it to complete my CITIZENS ARREST collection though. I could never really get into BORN AGAINST but even their track on this 7" is quite good compared to their other stuff but it's still the weakest track here in my ears and while CITIZENS ARREST are totally out of their league anyway but they are no match for BURN, TURNING POINT or RORSCHACH neither. click the cover to download.

the AGE OF QUARREL 10" is one of the very few records that I didn't sell/trade in spite of the pro-Krishna consciousness attitude and therefore lyrics that cover the idiocy it brings with it. that said you now know probably everything negative that could be said about the CRO-MAGS 10" I guess? compared to the 12" with the same name it's like comparing a warm summer breeze to a hurricane! the hurricane being the 10" of course as this 10" is one of most aggressive HARDCORE records ever released. it's a shame it's just a bootleg that comes without lyrics etc. and it's also a shame the bootleggers used the bullshit Krishna-pic. as cover. if you've read John Joseph's biography EVOLUTION OF A CRO-MAGNON you can understand why he was easy prey for the Krishnas but why all the other people got involved is still beyond me. click the cover to d/l!

time for another dose of Darryl Kahan! this is FUNEBRARUM's DORMANT HALLUCINATION 7" that's ltd. to 2000 copies of which 1000 are on red vinyl and 1000 are on clear vinyl if I'm not mistaken. let's start with the packaging which is top notch! the 7" is housed in a full-color gatefold cover and has some additional inserts. you can see the brilliant drawing on the backside of one of the inserts on the right and as I don't really get what this drawing is supposed to mean perhaps anybody can spell it out to me? perhaps the sentence "NUKE THEIR ASS!!!" is confusing me? shouldn't that be "NUKE THEIR ASSES!!!"? just saying, not sure though so let's continue with the music on the 7" which is 2 songs plus an intro. honestly speaking I'm not really sure what to think about it. I bought this 7" cause I really like FUNEBRARUM's BENEATH THE COLUMNS OF ABANDONED GODS 12" and while this 7" isn't really bad it's far from being as good as said 12" in my ears even though I couldn't really say why. check it out and decide for yourself! click the cover to d/l!

I finally got my hands on a copy of HATRED SURGE's 2 track lathe cut 5" a while ago. a record I had on my want list not so much cause of the music but mainly cause of the size and the artwork. don't get me wrong the music is rad GRINDCORE as always but the sound, which I consider important for GRINDCORE on most lathe cuts isn't exactly brilliant and this one is no exception. you'll get 2 different rips one of the 5" and one of the 2 tracks that are on the 5" ripped from their 2005 -2007 CD so you can hear for yourself. in the MRR review of NUCLEAR CULT's HEIMSPIEL demo from 2009 the reviewer wrote "this is the fastest and angriest shit I've heard in a while" and I totally agree! Berlin's NUCLEAR CULT is SOLID DECLINE with a new vocalist if I'm not mistaken (but don't sound much like SOLID DECLINE in my opinion) which means they got ex-members of Y and PINK FLAMINGOS within their ranks. you'll get 9 tracks of sheer brutality that run between 10 seconds and 1.15 minutes and totally blew me away. the 9 tracks are including a cover of VIOLENT TUMOR's TOOLBOX by the way. as the tape is already sold out as far as I know and they are among the best German bands right now I thought I should post it here. click the picture below to download.

after waiting for ages the GEHENNA / VEGAS split 7" on VEDAVU REC. that is ltd. to 100 copies finally surfaced here. now, before we go on let me tell you that you have no idea how curious I was on this record or on it's packaging to be more precise. in case that you now think that being more curious on the packaging of a record than on the music sounds a little bit retarded let me also tell you that A) I already have the music on my laptop since months and B) it was released by Jeremy on VEDAVU (if you don't know what that means I suggest you do a blog search) which means the artwork, the packaging and the music fit together and make this a real piece of art! the 7" comes with an obi-strip and the cover is a folder that opens in the middle which is sealed by a thick cardboard obi-strip. if you remove the obi to take a look at the cover you should pay attention to the fact that unlike most folders that open in the middle both sides exactly fit together if closed! the 7" comes with an extra insert for each band which have been messed up by the printer so that the back of the GEHENNA insert has the lyrics of the VEGAS track and vice versa. the split came together with a GEHENNA shirt as you can see on the last pic. as you can also see on the last pic is that mine came with an extra VEDAVU shirt that according to Jeremy is not for sale but "only for the homeboys" - thanks for that sir! about the music: the split has one track of each band per side. the GEHENNA track is called WITHIN THE PEYOTE CULT and sounds as spiteful and sick as you expect GEHENNA to sound. the VEGAS track on the flipside called THE ORIGINAL SIN brings old INTEGRITY to mind especially when it comes down to the vocals which is totally fine with me as I really like the old INTEGRITY stuff. on a side note: VEDAVU has announced upcoming releases of HOT PURSUIT, GOD'S IRON TOOTH, DEVIL, VERMAPYRE, THE ARM AND SWORD OF A BASTARD GOD, PIGS and SLEEPWALKER so you better watch out!

on another side note: during the last weeks various people have asked me for GEHENNA mp3s via e-mail. in case you are playing around with the thought to ask me if I could upload GEHENNA's fill-in-record-title for you let me safe you some time: NO! Mike Apocalypse a.k.a. Mike Cheese doesn't want GEHENNA's music to be available on blogs for download and I respect that therefore no one will get any mp3s from me! period! I somehow also doubt that all people that promised they'd not share the mp3s with anybody else in their e-mails would keep their promise!

here you get KNIFE FIGHT's 2nd 7" from 2004 that's called BURNING BRIDGES and delivers 4 tracks of raw old-school HARDCORE. this 7" doesn't sound as NEGATIVE APPROACH influenced as there later stuff but is one step ahead in that direction. what I really dig about KNIFE FIGHT is that if you play all their 7"es in a row you can clearly hear the development and progress from one 7" to the next. they started as a good band and developed into a raging hurricane!

just got the split 7" Nippon's SLANG share with MIND ERASER from the U.S. a short time ago but as I believe it to be sold out I thought I'd post it anyway. there are only 3 tracks on this 7" one from SLANG and 2 from MIND ERASER and none is a let down even though I don't think that the SLANG track is as good as anything on their THE IMMORTAL SOUL 12" (which you should buy as soon as possible if you haven't bought it yet!) it's a solid song no doubt about it. MIND ERASER's 2 tracks are better than the stuff on their last 12" - 2 sweet little ragers! the only thing I still dislike about them is that their vocalist is into that ridiculous Krishna bullshit which I find totally embarrassing read John Joseph's biography "Evolution Of A Cro-Magnon" and you'll agree most likely! luckily it doesn't come through in his lyrics. click the cover to d/l!

one band that's around since 2002 but always flew under my radar till 2010 is KNIFE FIGHT which totally surprised me with their ISOLATED 7" on PAIN KILLER REC. that is so good I bought their other two 7"es and their 12" within 4 weeks after having heard them for the 1st time. this is their self-titled 11 song debut 7" on MY WAR REC. from 2003. even though it's not as good as their later stuff it's still a great 7" and already gives you a hint on the potential KNIFE FIGHT have and offers you some vicious raging HARDCORE - what more can you ask for? click the cover to d/l!

after years of trying to hunt down a copy of this I finally scored a copy of DROPDEAD's split 8" with RUPTURE! as you can see my copy is on black vinyl but there's a pressing on multi-col. vinyl too (sell me one!). actually as far as record collecting is concerned the last month was one of the most successful in my whole career and I was able to get a lot of records I was desperately hunting for ages - something you'll recognize in my postings here even though I admit a lot is nerdy shit like a 2nd press copy of CITIZENS ARREST's COLOSSUS 12" on red vinyl. but back to the 8" here: 14 DROPDEAD songs and 10 RUPTURE songs is what you get. the DROPDEAD tracks all appear on their discography 11" (or 12" depending on which pressing you got) and you should therefore be familiar with them. as I never cared for the Aussies I can't tell you much about them but music-wise these songs are from their most interesting period when they were fast and still could kick some ass before they became the lame and sad joke they are now. click on either cover to d/l and check for yourself!

a few days ago the OFF THE DISC box surfaced at my place. the box was done by Thomas Mölch who now runs DEAD END RECORDS but used to do a zine called MEGAWIMP and OFF THE DISC RECORDS together with my "special friend" Erich Keller and brought you stuff like INFEST's SLAVE 12" and MORBID ANGEL's THY KINGDOM COME 7". as I have been stupid enough to sell my original copy of the MORBID ANGEL 7" more than 10 years ago I was really stoked to get the re-mastered re-release in my hands. truth is the box contains 5 other 7"es. 4 x re-releases from the 7"es of DEMISE, ABC DIABOLO, SLEEP and RUPTURE plus a comp. 7" which didn't make it back in the day and does NOT suck that features a track from DISRUPT, MINDROT, BATTLE OF DISARM, MONUMENT and DEFORMED CONSCIENCE called LOST IN TIME... ARMAGEDDON IS HERE besides the (re-mastered) MORBID ANGEL 7", some stickers, an INFEST poster and in case you were lucky enough to score one of the 100 pre-order copies also an INFEST shirt but I only bought it cause of the MORBID ANGEL 7" even though the DEMISE 7" and RUPTURE's RIGHTEOUS FUCK 7" are also called classics nowadays and the ABC DIABOLO 7" or the comp. 7" are no let down either! I wouldn't need the SLEEP 7" cause they suck in my book and I most likely will never play that 7" again and I guess I also could live without the INFEST shirt cause the "WHERE'S THE UNITY" pack-print kind of spoils it for me somehow. I couldn't care less about unity you know! not that anybody else would care though... well, at least the INFEST poster and sticker for which the original layout from way back in the days was used still look good today. as the box was ltd. to 400 only copies of which 100 served as the pre-order edition incl. the shirt (pre-order edition is sold out) you should hurry up tracking down a copy of the box if you don't want to buy it from someone for an arm and a leg on ebay later.

back to MORBID ANGEL's THY KINGDOM COME 7": if my memory serves me right the re-mastering makes it sound a little bit cleaner than the original pressing but it still sounds raw as fuck and it didn't take away anything from the brutality of the 2 songs! as far as I'm concerned this 7" blows anything they released later out of the water. seriously, it's on heavy rotation here since it's arrival! you best bet would be to contact Thomas himself I guess. he can be reached via: deadendrecords@gmx.net

I guess if IRON LUNG would smoke heavy doses of crack and do some meth on top of it they'd sound like SFN which stands for STUPID FUCKING NAME or STANDS FOR NOTHING. totally awesome fierce POWER VIOLENCE with lots of blastbeats! this is the vinyl version of their FOULED NESTS demo (that was released on 625 THRASH in a ltd. edition of 300 copies on green wax I think) and therefore the recordings are raw which really suits them well! now, as much as I like the 7" music-wise I'm annoyed by the packaging! it's a poor joke - period! just a cardboard sheet that not even gives you a track-list which is even more annoying as one song isn't mentioned anywhere. well, technically 2 titles are missing as what I tagged as outro also has a title that I just don't remember right now but as you should delete that cause it's just some noise that sucks anyway that's no drama. click the button below to d/l!

this is one of the records I got as a birthday present from me a while ago (I like getting presents from myself cause somehow it's always something I really like!) and it's also one of the records it took me ages to track down even though it isn't so rare or hard to find usually. well, one of the nice things that come with the release of any discography is that usually a short time after the discography was released one can get the original pressings of the incl. releases quite easy. when i saw the MK-ULTRA design on the right posted on Facebook by Kirk that came to mind, I did a spontaneous ebay search and finally got a copy of MK-ULTRA's 1st 7" that's also referred to as STICK-FIGURE 7" sometimes. if you've done your homework you know that the red cover means 1st press (2nd pess had a green cover) which is always nice but way nicer is the fact that my copy not only incl. the complete inlays (booklet + sticker) but hardly has been played more than 1 or 2 times if it has been played at all. as the tracks on this 7" are among the best stuff MK-ULTRA have ever released I'm more than happy that I finally scored a copy and even happier I scored a copy that's in such great shape! also incl. is a scan of the booklet that came with the 7"! the only question that still remains unanswered is who is the dude on the label? no, not King Diamond the other one?

this is the vinyl version of EXTORTION's demo tape + 2 extra tracks released on COFFIN CUT RECORDS in a ltd. white label edition of 500 copies. the cover above is the regular cover the cover below is the cover of a special edition called LAUNCH that was ltd. to 100 copies and sold at a show only. when I ordered 2 copies from the label I got both versions and a letter that said: "Sorry, dude I ran out of regular covers so I send you one copy with a Launch-cover!" nothing to complain about, right? well, in theory that's true but in reality it doesn't really matter when both 7" surface so wrapped they can hardly be played at all cause they are only sent in an envelope without any cardboard to back them up. seriously if you run a label you should know how to pack your stuff! if you have any doubts how to do that properly I suggest you order something from VEDA VU and take a close look at the parcel you receive (a look at the packaging of their releases won't hurt either! trust me on that!). while the regular version comes in a white dust-sleeve and only has stamped "SIDE A" on the label of, you guessed it, side A the LAUNCH version comes in a red dust sleeve and has EXTORTION stamped on the label of side B and the inlay is not only a xeroxed piece of paper but printed on glossy paper normally used for photos. the 10 tracks from their demo have been recoded on 4 tracks and therefore sound even rawer than the recordings on the TERMINAL CANCER 7" and also incl. a cover of BLACK FLAG's FIX ME. the rip sounds a little bit strange on some parts that's cause the records are wrapped, sorry! a better high quality rip would be highly appreciated here!

this is the FUCKED UP / THINK I CARE live split 7" that came with the pre-orders of the TOWN OF HARDCORE ZINEOGRAPHY book (in case you don't already own it - buy it!) and was ltd. to something like 200 copies. don't quote me on that cause it seems like nobody knows for sure if there were 200, 300 or even 500 copies made but a print-run of 200 copies is what the majority of people seems to think of as accurate. I didn't even know this record exists until a few weeks ago and on a coincidence I could get my hands on a copy soon thereafter. FUCKED UP's side was recorded at CBGB's 29/05/2006 while THINK I CARE's side was recorded at SOUND & FURY 28/07/2006. both recordings are ok as far as quality is concerned but I like the THINK I CARE sound a little bit better. the packaging is more than minimalistic: a screen-printed blue dust sleeve and that's it! no song titles, nothing! the labels are also only black with hand-stamped band names on them. click the cover to d/l!

the next post in the POISON IDEA series is most likely my most stupid record purchase in quite a while and is POISON IDEA's contribution to the SUB POP RECORDS singles club in 1990. the 7" has TAKEN BY SURPRISE and WE GOT THE BEAT and had a print-run of 4500 copies (3000 on green marbled vinyl & 1500 on black vinyl). as both tracks also appear on other records (and aren't exactly their best work) the only people that care about this 7" are most likely record collecting idiots like myself and even I only bought it cause of the cover drawing and cause it was cheap!

Nippon's SLANG popped up on my radar when they released their incredible THE IMMORTAL SIN 12" in 2008 on SCHIZOPHRENIC RECORDS after they managed to fly below my radar for ages. but it seems as if they not only popped up on my radar but also on most other people's radars too cause after that 12" they all of a sudden not only did a bunch of splits with well-known bands like MIND ERASER and WORLD BURNS TO DEATH but even have a German re-release of THE IMMORTAL SIN announced... this 7" is the one they share with E.N.T. and even though E.N.T. are way better on their 2 tracks than I expected them to be they are no match for SLANG although their 2 tracks aren't as good as the tracks on the 12" neither. as the split was ltd. to 500 copies and sold out fast you should click the cover to d/l it and decide for yourself!

another POISON IDEA 7" from 1991 I could recently score for cheap. honestly speaking that I got it so cheap was the only reason I bought it cause I already had the 12" version of it which has an additional track and therefore I can't say I really needed this one too but like in many cases having it doesn't hurt neither. anyway on the 7" version you get 2 tracks from the BLANK, BLACKOUT, VACANT 12" area: PUNISH ME which is on said 12" and a total gem plus MARIO THE COP. originally released in an edition of 1000 copies on pink wax hand-numbered and autographed by the band and signed by the cover artist on AMERICAN LEATHER RECORDS. the re-release on VINYL SOLUTION differs from the U.S. version in that the front cover art has a border and the back cover is white on black as opposed to black on white, there are no autographs and it's on purple wax . another sweet split 7" released by SPIDERGHOST PRESSGANG in 2006 on brown vinyl is shared by NEVER HEALED and VIOLENT MINDS and is called: ARMOURY OF FEARLESS TRUTH AGAINST WHISPERING RUMOR. truth be told I mainly bought this cause of the VIOLENT MINDS tracks as their self-titled 7" really fucking rocks but NEVER HEALED are no let down either. in fact I even like their 2 songs better than the 2 VIOLENT MINDS songs. I remember a discussion I saw on the web about NEVER HEALED and their views cause of some modified NS-artwork they've used on a live-tape (I think) but I do neither remember any details nor where I saw it cause of this I'll stick to the facts: this split hasn't any shady artwork (neither does the other NEVER HEALED 7" I got) and the lyrics are also clean. if anybody has more info - fill me in! d/l button down below!

as both tracks from the SHIN TO SHIN / PULLING TEETH split 7" are also included in the A389 Records compilation one can d/l for free I think posting them here too won't hurt anybody's feelings. anyway, this was supposed to be a split 5" and I assume it ended as a 7" cause the SHIN TO SHIN track runs 2:55 which is 30 seconds too long for a 5". as I got a weak spot for 5"es, etc. I'd normally be really pissed off that it was released as a 7" instead of the 5" it was supposed to be but this split is an exception! I've already told you before that it contains only one track from each band 7". and while the PULLING TEETH track is far from being bad and has everything you wish for if fast metallic (obviously SLAYER influenced) HARDCORE is your thing it's no match for the inferno SHIN TO SHIN unleash! I never doubted that Aaron Melnick would let me down with his new band but I'd have never thought that he could pull off something like this! this is the most perfect mix of G.I.S.M. and Clevo styled HARDCORE I've ever heard and every fucking second of this track slays! FUCK EVERYTHING! it's been a while since my last post... well, during the last weeks I had to face so much bullshit on one hand and such a shitload of work in my job at the other that I neither had the time nor the mood for blogging like in writing new posts (that's why the "new" posts are more ore less just re-written old posts) or to just even take care of the blog (and a lot of other things I should have taken care of truth be told) by e.g. responding to comments or whatever cause in the little spare time I had I was too busy with listening to GEHENNA, HAMMERHEAD (the German ones of course), HARM'S WAY, and GRAVEHILL's PRACTITIONERS OF FELL SORCERY demo (I guess that's a hint for some) while getting fucked up. you could also say life got in the way or whatever! I actually wouldn't even mention it here but as one of the things I should have taken care of but didn't was replying to e-mails there's a ton of people out there that are waiting for a response from me for ages (I'm thinking especially about you: Mahlon, Sven, Keke & Tony but also some others) and so I thought that this post would be quicker to do than anything else. right now I'm in the process of catching up but I'm still mercilessly slow at replying/writing e-mails as I'm a) still drowning in work and b) also have some issues with my fucking internet access since 4 weeks cause my router takes fuck everything very seriously and is well aware of the fact that everything includes me and my nerves too! it will take me most likely another 2 weeks to get back to everybody on my list but the above mentioned will be first.

HERDS. the last song is called HORSE-BREAKING but should be called neck-breaking instead! 5 tracks of ferocious and angry HARDCORE just as you'd expect a band with ex-members of CHARLES BRONSON, THREATENER, GET RAD, 14 OR FIGHT, KUNG FU RICK and SEVEN DAYS OF SAMSARA to sound. the artwork is also top notch as well as the packaging!

DeKalb's SICK/TIRED have released their 1st full-length on TO LIVE A LIE RECORDS (it was supposed to be released on COALITION RECORDS but COALITION has gone belly up). as I was a little bit involved in putting out their debut split 7" my opinion could be seen as a bit prejudiced... anyway, believe it or not the 12", which is called HIGH LIFE is a fucking ripper! I knew that already before I got a physical copy of the record cause the tracks were all recorded in the same session than the 4 tracks on the split 7" and Kirk had sent the whole session my way quite some time ago and which lead to their appearance in the MAD BLASTS OF CHAOS series. the 12" is available in 3 different colors: black, red (ltd. to 100 copies) and gray (ltd. to 22 copies). as you can see on the pics below Kirk was kind enough to send me one of the 22 gray copies. as I haven't seen a physical copy on red I don't know if the red ones also come with a certificate like that you can see below which came with my gray one. the artwork of the cover and the inlay is also totally rad! seriously, in my opinion SICK/TIRED are one of the best bands around right now and if you like your HARDCORE fast and furious you should do yourself a favor and get yourself a copy of HIGH LIFE! you can check out one track here.

finally the long awaited CALIFORNIA LOVE / GEHENNA split 7" surfaced here just in time to sweeten my "fuck-everything-mood"! very kind really! as you can see on the pics there are 2 versions of it around - the regular one on black wax and the one ltd. to 250 copies with the red cover on red wax that came with a GEHENNA live 12" and a copy of THE LOVE BELOW's REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS 7" on colored wax. I know that a lot of people aren't really into this split 7" or even think it's weak... not that I would care about other people's opinions but I don't really understand why someone would think this split is weak cause the only negative thing I could say is that it has just one track from each band and therefore is rather short. besides that it is more or less what I expected it to be if not even a little better! CALIFORNIA LOVE's vocalist Aaron had told me before that their recordings would be shit but still OK as they'd be shit in a kind of early DEATH METAL demo way. well, I agree that there is a touch of DEATH METAL in their track called FEUERSTURM but I wouldn't say that the recording is shit or that they sound unbelievably different to their 2 12"es and I'm really looking forward to their farewell 7" with the other 8 tracks from that recording session that their guitarist will release (the 1st test presses were all fucked up). lyric-wise CALIFORNIA LOVE stick to the "we despise the human race" theme which is also nothing new in their case. sad but true Aaron also told me that CALIFORNIA LOVE split up. the GEHENNA track on the flip-side is called GET FUCKED UP and as it already had been available for download from Mr. Apocalypse's blog for a short time a while ago you might know the song anyway. as a matter of fact GEHENNA can do no wrong in my ears and therefore you might have assumed that this track is no exception and that I'm as much into it as I'm into all their stuff if you are frequently reading this blog or just have read what I wrote about GEHENNA in the past. in case you've made that assumption... guess what - it's 100% correct! that shouldn't really make you wonder as GEHENNA sound spiteful, vicious and ugly in their own unique way even though you can hear which bands have influenced them quite clearly.

actually the pic on the left doesn't show the real cover of the GEHENNA live 12" that came with the pre-order version of their split with CALIFORNIA LOVE, is ltd. to 250 copies and is called THE HOPE GUZZO BOOTLEG. sorry for that but the cover doesn't fit my scanner and as it's a photography it would have been too tricky to make multiple scans and cut & paste it together if I wouldn't have had the time to do that anyway plus you can also see the actual cover on the pic at the bottom. now, you get a regular live set recorded at Gilman St. on one side and a KXLU radio live show on the flip-side which is the better one in my opinion. truth be told I think that 99,99% of all live recordings suck so much that no one needs them and consider releasing them on any format a waste of resources! among the very rare exceptions would be the CITIZENS ARREST live 8" and their radio show, some of the LIFE'S BLOOD stuff that's around, POISON IDEA's DUTCH COURAGE, the GEHENNA / CATHARSIS split 12" and a few more including this one. someone once told me the the voice of GEHENNA's vocalist on the earlier mentioned split live 12" would sound like a demon from yelling at you and he doesn't sound so much different here. this is some of the rawest, ugliest and hostile music I've heard till now. if you can't get into GEHENNA or also if you just can't get into their live recordings - don't worry cause it might not be your fault. it most likely just might be the case that you lack the experience of crawling through the stench of urine and vomit in the darkest pits of human existence fighting tooth and claw to keep your sanity. anyway, let's move on to the artwork and packaging of the record. I admit that I felt a little disappointed for a moment when I held the physical copy in my hands for the 1st time. the cover a 12" x 24" sheet of thick paper folded in the middle and not a bag and comes with a small booklet that gives you a track-list and an interview but no lyrics but when I looked on the inside artwork I suddenly realized that the pic on the inside was the photography from the cover only inverted which they did on the split 7" artwork too - I guess that's called continuation and is considered to be a style of art. now, while I've already told you that the record is called THE HOPE GUZZO BOOTLEG I haven't told you why yet. in case you don't already know who Hope Guzzo is let me tell you that she's the photographer who took the pic that was used for the cover of this 12" plus she's the person interviewed in the booklet by GEHENNA. I should add that the introduction to the interview briefly explains why her art was used on the cover. as the ltd. pre-order packs are sold out by now I scanned the interview in case you missed it!

THANKS mate! as you can see I was lucky enough to snatch a copy of THE DONOR in the meantime (traded it for a KALI 7"). and as I basically already told you everything you need to know about MOB RULES in said post too and they also stick to the same minimalistic design/artwork I guess the best idea is to point you there. the only thing I might add is that their debut 7" had a print-run of 1000 copies - 500 copies on black wax and 500 copies on red wax and sold out quicker than quick in times even bigger bands have difficulties to sell more than 500 copies. take that as a hint that MOB RULES rule!

there wasn't so much going on here during the last weeks but there are more important things in life than blogging once in a while. now, as girlfriend is already sleeping which means I should stay away from my stereo if I don't want war I flipped a coin if I would either spend some time blogging or answer my e-mails. even though e-mails would be more important the coin told me to spend some time blogging... so here we go. as Jeremy messed up my address he got the parcel bounced back to him when he tried to send me the latest VEDAVU release but 3 days ago I finally got my copy of the 2nd part of VEDAVU's ORANGE SERIES a.k.a. DEVIL's LIVE ENTRY 7" in the mail. as expected the packaging is incredible! as you can see on the pic somewhere below the 7" came with a shirt (that really suits me well according to my girlfriend), a pro-done CD with the tracks from the 7", a square 2" button and a full-color lyric-sheet. on the pic above you can see that the cover has 2 (thick cardboard) obi-strips that add some kind of cinematic touch to the record. as Mr. Apocalypse has posted about DEVIL on his blog himself you may be aware of the fact that DEVIL is a BLACK METAL band and that he's handling the vocals. if you follow the link to Mike's blog you should be able to download a DEVIL track that's not on this 2 track 7" but will give you a good idea of the gritty lo-fi BLACK METAL mayhem that they release on this 7"/CD. as VEDAVU has included a pro-done CD on every release so far you normally get the best of both worlds - a gritty lo-fi lathe-cut record on one hand and a hi-fi CD on the other but in this case the CD doesn't sound so much different to the 7". actually this time the vocals of the 2nd track sound better on the 7" than on the CD even though they still sound like some demonic hissing that you can barely hear somewhere in the back. as all other VEDAVU releases this one is also strictly limited and only 42 copies were made which are of course all gone by now. I know that 42 copies aren't many but as you've got to see every single release Jeremy has done so far more like a piece of art that's not meant for public consumption than like (just) another record (I'm not saying a "normal" record couldn't be a piece of art too but most of them aren't) it makes totally sense! and as it's not meant for public consumption there's no download link!

together with the DEVIL stuff came a square HOT PURSUIT 7" that was supposed to be the next release on VEDAVU and Pt. III of the ORANGE SERIES but Jeremy told me that:"the HOT PURSUIT record is a reject! we are gonna smash the rest!" which probably means this is another record you'd love to have but most likely will never get! especially if you click on the pic of the 7" and download their demo cause the demo is fucking rad and the the 7" is the demo plus an alternative version of a track!

last but not least Jeremy also slipped in a TAFKATA shirt that looks fucking rad and of course is, you guessed it, also limited. THANKS A LOT! the good news is that you might be still able to get a copy if you click on the shirt!

another record that Mr. Apocalypse was involved with as a musician was the new SANGRAAL 7" called FATAL COORDINATES. well, not that Mike wouldn't have told you already everything you need to know on his blog but as this is the 1st release of ROCK COCAINE RECORDS (which b.t.w. is the most brilliant name for a label I've heard so far) and Mickey runs his label the old-school way which means that you've to stuff some cash (7 U$D/10U$D p.p. U.S./world) in an envelope which scared a lot of people that are only used to e-mails and paypal I thought it might be a good idea to tell you that, in my case, Mickey was super-fast in shipping my records! if I'm not mistaken I had the records in the mail only 9 days after I dropped the letter with the cash at the post-office! plus I was super stoked to finally hear SANGRAAL's follow up to their WOLVES OF ARMAGEDDON 12" (the 1st record I was ever offered a blowjob for re-upping it b.t.w.) from 1998 which is among the records that stood the test of time and still gets played on a regular basis. honestly speaking: if you'd have asked me before Mike's post about the new 7" how I'd consider the chances for another SANGRAAL vinyl to ever see the light of day would be my answer would have been "next to 0!" but here it is in form of a 5 track 7" that was well worth the wait! Mike wrote "5 new songs of barbaric violent thrash similar to KVIKKSOLGUTTENE and early DODHEIMSGARD" in his post about the 7". while I agree on the musical description I might add that he forgot to tell you that it's more like 4 new SANGRAAL tracks and a 5th track you may or may not have heard before. I noticed that I knew said track already as soon as it came through the speakers of my stereo but I leave it up to you to figure out the details! don't know how many have been pressed but I know you should stuff some cash in an envelope and send it to Mickey who can be reached through the address on the bottom!
