well, what could I probably say / write about POISON IDEA that hasn't been said / written before? not much? yup, that's right! cause of that I'll keep this post short. BLANK BLACKOUT VACANT is POISON IDEA's 4th full length which was released about 20 years ago in 1992 and has gems like PUNISH ME on it. click the cover to download! the password is mean.

the 1st press of this 12" came with this 2 track live 7" that has FEEL THE DARKNESS on side A and ALAN'S ON FIRE on side B. both tracks have been recorded live on KBOO on 09/10/1991. in case you ask yourself what the song ALAN'S ON FIRE is about, here's the explanation: this song called "Alan's On Fire", about this guy who my friend knew. He worked all his life for this company, he had a family, three kids who grew up and went to college. And he was treated like shit all the time, he was like a nonassuming person who was just used all his life. So one morning he invited his family over and they all had dinner, with their kids and everything. And there's Grandpa Alan, he's been pissed off all his life. And he makes them sit down at the table and have coffee with him, and Alan went in the backyard, sat down and poured a jug of gasoline over his head and ignited himself in front of his family! "So for once in my life I will be heard, you won't ignore me now, you've fucked me all my life, this time you're gonna pay attention." It's very powerful, so we wrote a song about it.

WE GOT THE BOMB!

I thought that it's about time for another post about the "Kings of Punk" a.k.a. POISON IDEA therefore here's their OFFICAL BOOTLEG double 7" (you just have to love records with typos in the title). well, the two 7"es are housed in a gatefold cover but come without any inserts and only deliver 1 song per 7" side and all of them, except PLASTIC BOMB, are only covers that also appear on other releases as well. as most of the cover songs POISON IDEA recorded during their career aren't exactly among the best shit they did honestly speaking most likely nobody really needs this one but it also doesn't hurt to have it. click the cover to download! the password is mean.

on a side note: as the labels basically all look the same and only differ through the song title on each of them I only scanned one of the 4 labels.

XEROX FRUSTRATE

I scored a stack of POISON IDEA 7"es just recently which put me on a POISON IDEA trip and therefore you'll get your share of POISON IDEA too. the 1st to be posted is the LEARNING TO SCREAM 7" on TAANG from 1998. it has 3/4 of the original line up back together but with Ian Miller instead of Pig Champion on guitar. 3 tracks that are more like their older stuff and less like the stuff they did on BLANK, BLACKOUT, VACANT meaning rawer and faster. no matter what it's still a great 7" in my book - click the cover to d/l!

TAKEN BY THE BEAT

the next post in the POISON IDEA series is most likely my most stupid record purchase in quite a while and is POISON IDEA's contribution to the SUB POP RECORDS singles club in 1990. the 7" has TAKEN BY SURPRISE and WE GOT THE BEAT and had a print-run of 4500 copies (3000 on green marbled vinyl & 1500 on black vinyl). as both tracks also appear on other records (and aren't exactly their best work) the only people that care about this 7" are most likely record collecting idiots like myself and even I only bought it cause of the cover drawing and cause it was cheap!

PUNISH THE COP

another POISON IDEA 7" from 1991 I could recently score for cheap. honestly speaking that I got it so cheap was the only reason I bought it cause I already had the 12" version of it which has an additional track and therefore I can't say I really needed this one too but like in many cases having it doesn't hurt neither. anyway on the 7" version you get 2 tracks from the BLANK, BLACKOUT, VACANT 12" area: PUNISH ME which is on said 12" and a total gem plus MARIO THE COP. originally released in an edition of 1000 copies on pink wax hand-numbered and autographed by the band and signed by the cover artist on AMERICAN LEATHER RECORDS. the re-release on VINYL SOLUTION differs from the U.S. version in that the front cover art has a border and the back cover is white on black as opposed to black on white, there are no autographs and it's on purple wax . Also the U.S. sleeve was fold-over. click the cover to d/l!

BURNT FOR THE LAST TIME

the reason for this post is a rather sad one. on 09/10/2008 Steve Hansford a.k.a. Slayer Hippie was arrested and charged with robbing a pharmacy in Portland / Or. in case he's found guilty he'll face a 7 - 15 years sentence. when he wasn't robbing banks he was a brilliant drummer as you can hear on the 6 songs on this brilliant POISON IDEA 12". 6 hits - that's all I'll say!

KEEP WARM - BURN OUT THE RICH!

another nice POISON IDEA bootleg! this time it´s a really well done German boot that has some gimmicks I´ve not seen anywhere else til now! cause this boot has the lyrics and German translations of the lyrics (ever seen that?) and synopses from of an interview. 5 tracks (of which some are live recordings but they´ve a decent sound!) has with DISCONTENT one of my all time POISON IDEA faves. the cover / backcover show some nice pics and tells you that just 600 were pressed! mine is on white vinyl!

SAY GOODBYE

here, the KINGS OF PUNK serve you a 6 song picture 10". I don´t where/from whom I got as I don´t listen to it much! in my eyes this is one of POISON IDEA´s weaker releases! sure, their G.I.S.M. cover DEATH, AGONY & SCREAMS (here in a live version) is cool and SAY GOODBYE (live) is a nice song but in 99,99% of the cases are live recordings something no one needs, like it these ones and the other 4 tracks aren´t among the best they ever did! b.t.w. I´m well aware of the fact that POISON IDEA´s DUTCH COURAGE live record is among the exceptions! anyway, it´s POISON IDEA so it can´t be bad (sad but true it can be far from brilliant though) and you got some pics to watch if the music bores you!
