GOTCHA!!!

I finally scored a copy of the SHANK / UNHOLY GRAVE split 7" which was the last missing piece of vinyl in my SHANK (vinyl) collection (now sell/trade me that tape from their Aussie tour!). let's start with Nippon's UNHOLY GRAVE: as they put 2 THE STUPIDS covers on their side they don't blow as much as they usually do but the still blow nevertheless. a band that no one needs! period! fortunately SHANK make up for that let down with their 5 tracks as expected. fast, vicious & angry songs with intelligent lyrics and nice explanations. click on either cover to download! pw = mean.

LIMITED

I haven't seen this one on any other blog yet maybe cause it was so limited? just 300 copies made that sold out in the blink of an eye. I was too late for the limited to 100 version of the limited version myself but I snatched some of the 200. anyway, this was the final SHANK release - a cover of CITIZENS ARREST's NUMBER while THE ENDLESS BLOCKADE rip through JUDGE's FED UP. great! click on the cover above!

L A G G I N G !

I know I'm lagging once again. an ill girlfriend and a stack of 19 12"es and 20 - 25 7"es that are (still) waiting for me and Chabo to finally give them a spin have kept me from blogging and continue doing so! in the meantime enjoy the re-ups!
edit: if you click on the pic above you can download my (very incomplete) trade & wantlist!

b.t.w. I strongly recommend that you buy the SHANK / THE ENDLESS BLOCKADE split 7" as long as you still got the chance cause it's brilliant! both bands doing a coversong (JUDGE & CITIZENS ARREST). there were just 300 made and word on the street is it won't be reissued ever again! the 1st 100 copies had a 2nd cover and some more gimmicks I think but as SCHIZOPHRENIC's spamfilter hates me I was to late for one of those but as I at least got the normal version I'll survive that!

HOMO HOMINI LUPUS

is a 7" comp. which features AUTORITÄR, GOMORRHA, COMATOSE, SHANK, CALLOUSED, PINK FLAMINGOS, IRRITATE and S.C.D.. SHANK have a real worse sound on this comp. here which is a big let-down in my eyes and the rest is pretty solid! except COMATOSE they were the 2nd band of the WILBUR COBB drummer and are fucking rad!

PARASITE

it's once again time for some SHANK! so here's the SHANK / MINUTE MANIFESTO split 7" that I actually didn't rip cause of the SHANK stuff as their 6 tracks all appear on their semi discography THE CURSE OF SHANK but cause of MINUTE MANIFESTO! they are another awesome band that somehow never drew much attention. they rip through 7 pissed off, raging tracks of their own and throw in a STUPIDS cover that also really slays as icing on the gravy! this was the 1st SHANK record I bought. I bought it at their show in Munich where they played with a band that was called HERNANDEZ if I remember correct. everybody seemed to like HERNANDEZ cause they "tried to do their own thing" which would translate to they used a keyboard but I found them boring especially as they played after SHANK! be prepared for the MINUTE MANIFESTO / URKO split 12" in the near future!

you'll find the re-up of the IRON LUNG / SHANK split 12" if you click the cover! a really rad record now with scans of the lyrics!

CODED MESSAGES

Anyone who hasn't heard SHANK yet, hasn't heard truly lip-splitting power violence. This 12" is on the semi-discography CD the "THE CURSE OF SHANK." (Actually the "curse of SHANK" is an inside joke about how everything associated with the band falls apart) SHANK is one of those select bands that was not part of the first-wave of POWER VIOLENCE, but is good enough that they sound like they were. Besides, when a band is this willing to use their intellect as well as their instruments, they deserve praise. The bountiful liner notes in the lyric booklet (called a "User's Manual") explain each track and are the main reason I posted the 12" even though all music was posted here before!

SHANK's semi-discography THE CURSE OF SHANK was re-upped! click on the cover!

IRON SHANK

two of the best bands when it comes down to what is called POWER VIOLENCE! the 2 piece from the U.S. called IRON LUNG and Glasgow's SHANK. on their split 12" they both rip through 17 songs (10 from IRON LUNG & 7 from SHANK) in 17 something minutes with a lyric sheet shaped like a coffin! I love IRON LUNG but they are no match for SHANK as SHANK are fiercer, angrier... they are one of those bands that make hate become music!

edit:
I re-upped this one not only cause it was hosted on divshare but also cause I found this upload on the internet which has an untitled bonus track - can anybody tell me something about that track?

HAMMER OF THE GODS!

the incomplete discography of SHANK a.k.a. THE CURSE OF SHANK.... if you´re into POWER VIOLENCE you should be familiar with these guys! SHANK play a no-frills flavor of frantic THRASH that will have your speakers pounding so fast you'll be lucky if they don't burst into flame from friction heat - that is until they slow down (just for contrast), at which point their pounding takes on the rhythm of continental drift as is just as unstoppable. Their furious delivery is matched by their intelligent lyrics and the rough and tumble production job on that is surprisingly in-your-face and clear considering it was recorded in a basement for like two bucks and a subway token (if the stories are true). I know they hate labels, but people into POWER VIOLENCE should put buying this album on their "to do" list right now because SHANK is one of only a handful of bands who can be mentioned in the same breathe as first-wave POWER VIOLENCE bands without embarrassment. SHANK doesn't really sound like CROSSED OUT but they have the same frenetic energy and use contrasting fast and slow parts just as effectively! when I saw them live they lived up to their promises, too! they really killed and passed the live-check with ease!

b.t.w. the cover and all other artwork for the "THE CURSE OF SHANK" were taken from the British movie SCUM which "is the hard and shocking story of life in a British Borstal for young offenders. Luckily the regime has changed since this film was made. The brutal regime made no attempt to reform or improve the inmates and actively encouraged a power struggle between the 'tough' new inmate and the 'old hands'. The film was originally made as a BBC play but it was banned before ever being shown. So 'Alan Clarke' and 'Roy Minton' got it re-made as a film. This is a tough and brutal film and should not be viewed lightly." if you got the chance: watch it! there's no exaggeration in the above it is a truly tough and brutal film!
